Kate Lawrence, the designer behind Romi Thorne, draws inspiration from antique jewellery, history, science, and anatomy. The designs endeavour to portray a sense of the curiosity in human nature.
Completing her degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing in 2008, Kate moved to London to gain experience working for a prestigious jewellery company in Mayfair. In 2010 she went travelling in South America, where the idea of setting up Romi Thorne began to take hold.
“My jewellery often takes inspiration from very traditional designs, but I try to add a quirky or unusual twist. I enjoy pieces that appear quite ordinary, which on closer inspection are subtly amusing and unexpected.”
Using jewellery techniques which have remained almost unchanged for hundreds of years, the designs are hand crafted in sterling silver and semi-precious stones in Kate’s studio in Cornwall.
